FAQ

Q. What is a MEK?

A. The MEK (Modern Everyday carry Kiridashi) is my take on the traditional Japanese utility knife used in the region for generations. Every day we encounter tasks like stripping wire, cutting against hard surfaces, or cutting through abrasive material that could damage or dull the blade of even the sturdiest knife. To solve this problem, the M.E.K. uses a standard utility knife blade that can be easily replaced if it gets dull or chipped. The thin offset blade allows you to make accurate and precise cuts wherever you need to and makes a great addition to your EDC gear. Another benefit to the M.E.K. is that it is convenient for travel not only because of its size and weight, but you can remove the blade and take it with you even on a plane; then you just pick up a new blade at your destination.

Q. How big is the MEK?

A. The standard MEK is 5.5" long including the blade and the weight ranges from 31 - 73 grams depending on handle material.

Q. What is the MEK made of?

A. Unless otherwise stated the body of every MEK is cut from a solid piece of titanium. This means that your MEK is lightweight, strong, and impervious to moisture.

Q. What comes with my MEK?

A. Each MEK comes with 1 blade, 1 hex key (1/16") for blade changes, and your choice of either a black or natural leather sheath.

Q. Do you take custom requests?

A. Of course! I take custom requests on MEKs, knives, sheaths, beads, EDC gear, and almost anything else you can think of. Just send me a message and let me know what you're after.
